In a heartfelt message to the nation, President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to remain patient and have faith in his economic reforms during these challenging times.
During his Independence Day address, the President recognized the substantial challenges many citizens are enduring, especially in relation to the persistent cost of living crisis.
Nigerians have been struggling with high inflation, largely due to the recent devaluation of the naira, skyrocketing petrol prices, and persistent insecurity which has adversely affected agricultural production.
These factors have collectively contributed to a challenging economic environment for numerous families.
Despite these challenges, President Tinubu affirmed his steadfast dedication to discovering “sustainable solutions” that will improve the living standards of Nigerians.

He assured the public that his administration is diligently addressing these urgent issues to enhance the overall economic situation.
“Fellow Nigerians, as I speak to you today, I am profoundly conscious of the hardships many are enduring during these trying times. Our administration recognizes the difficulties posed by escalating living expenses and the quest for meaningful employment. Rest assured, your concerns have not gone unheard,” he stated.
As your President, I want to assure you that we are dedicated to discovering sustainable ways to ease the hardships faced by our citizens. Once more, I ask for your patience as the reforms we’re putting in place exhibit promising results; we are starting to glimpse light at the end of this challenging period.
Sixty-four years ago today, our founding fathers embraced democracy as the cornerstone of governance. They ignited a vision for a great nation destined to guide Africa out of poverty, ignorance, and underdevelopment—a beacon of hope for both the continent and the world.
“More than sixty years later, we can reflect and see how Nigerians around the globe have fulfilled the grand visions of our founding fathers.”
The president urged Nigerians to stay optimistic about the future, highlighting that despite encountering challenges similar to those that caused other nations’ disintegration, the country has remained united.
He said, “Though it’s easy to dwell on our unfinished tasks and past missteps as a nation, we must always remember the significant progress we’ve made in uniting and sustaining our country.”
Since gaining independence, our nation has endured numerous crises and upheavals that have caused the collapse of many other countries around the globe. Just six years post-independence, we faced a political crisis that spiraled into a tragic and avoidable civil war.
“Since coming back from the edge of that darkest moment, we have learned to embrace our diversity and better manage our differences as we continue striving toward a more perfect union.”
Tinubu stated that, notwithstanding the challenges that have “buffeted our country,” Nigeria continues to be a “strong, united, and viable sovereign” nation.
