President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigerian drivers can now choose between buying petrol at N1,000 per litre or opting for compressed natural gas (CNG) available at N200 per Standard Cubic Meter.
The announcement was delivered at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with executives from the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO).
Motorists in Nigeria have the option to purchase petrol at a rate of N1,000 per litre or an equivalent amount of gas for N200 per Standard Cubic Meter.
Bayo Onanuga, the Presidential spokesman, quoted Tinubu as saying that incentives have been introduced for commercial motorists to switch from petrol to gas at no cost.
The President praised NIPCO for its contributions to the country’s energy transition initiatives, especially highlighting its support of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).

The statement emphasized that President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating a favorable environment for private sector investments and expanding Nigeria’s CNG infrastructure to boost energy efficiency and economic growth.
He additionally urged NIPCO to maintain its innovative strategy in expanding CNG, while aligning with the government’s broader objectives for the energy sector.
Mr. Ramesh Kasangra, the NIPCO director who headed the delegation, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support of the CNG sector.
He affirmed NIPCO’s dedication to advancing the collaboration with the government, ensuring that Nigeria’s energy transition stays on course.
He assured the president that the company was prepared to invest in infrastructure to enhance nationwide access to CNG.
He stated that NIPCO has been a major contributor in various sectors of Nigeria for more than forty years and remains committed to the country long term.
