President Bola Tinubu emphasized that both the federal and state governments have a shared responsibility in ensuring the peace and stability of the country.

Tinubu expressed his concerns during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum at his residence in Lagos. He reiterated his condemnation of the recent killings in Plateau state, where over 115 people lost their lives in attacks on various communities.

Tinubu had previously instructed security forces to apprehend the perpetrators and urged them to intensify their efforts in bringing the assailants to justice.

In his statement, Tinubu extended his condolences to the victims and stressed the importance of valuing human life. He called for a change in mindset among those who hold opposing beliefs, cautioning them about the consequences of their actions.

He also commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state for his efforts in resolving the political crisis in the state.

The governors present at the meeting expressed their condolences to the people of Plateau state and pledged their support to the president in his efforts to reform the economy.

Tinubu also mentioned his recent meeting with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, to review certain aspects of the 2024 appropriation bill.

The president emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation between the federal and sub-national governments to accelerate the progress of infrastructure development across the entire country.

“I urge us to abandon the categorization of roads into federal, state, or rural classifications. We should view development as a shared obligation,” he stated.

“Our focus should be on our children. The school feeding program should be promptly reinstated, starting from the local government level and extending to the state and federal governments. We must be committed to safeguarding our children and equipping them for the future.”
