The Conference of Speakers from 36 State Houses of Assembly has issued a plea to President Bola Tinubu to implement sustainable policies aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians, as stated in a communiqué signed by the chairman, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, following a meeting attended by 29 speakers in Abuja.
Furthermore, the conference urged both the Federal Government and State governments to adopt sustainable policies with equal levels of determination to ease the burdens of the citizens.
They acknowledged that the economic difficulties experienced were a result of the removal of petroleum product subsidies by the Federal Government and the fluctuation of the exchange rate, leading to severe repercussions for the populace.
During the meeting, discussions were held on a variety of topics related to good governance within the nation.

The communiqué highlighted the appreciation for the President’s bold economic decisions, such as the removal of petroleum subsidies and the exchange rate adjustments, while also recognizing the unintended severe impacts these policies have had on the people.
Addressing the conference, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, represented by Hon. Mark Esset, Chairman of the House Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations, emphasized the importance of prioritizing state legislative autonomy in the ongoing constitutional review.
He emphasized that this issue would be a key focus during the review process.
Esset further elaborated on the significance of the forum, describing it as a crucial platform where like-minded individuals converge to advance democratic processes and advocate for good governance.
He stressed the pivotal role that State Houses of Assembly play, especially during the constitutional review process currently being undertaken by the 10th National Assembly.
