Several days following the conclusion of a national dialogue on Policing, the House of Representatives is preparing to conduct a two-day retreat centered on economic transformation and development.
The primary goal of this retreat is to enhance the knowledge and skills of members in the areas of economic development and tax reform. Akin Rotimi, the Spokesman of the House, belonging to the APC party representing Ekiti, announced that the retreat is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, April 30, and will be inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Rotimi revealed that the theme of the retreat, organized in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung, will revolve around “Navigating change: Legislative strategies for economic transformation.”
The primary objective is to work collaboratively with legislative support institutions and partners to maintain capacity development programs for Members of the House.
In line with the Legislative Agenda that emphasizes Economic Growth and Development, the House recognizes the significant role of the legislature in influencing a nation’s economic direction and environment through legislation and oversight.
The retreat aims to deepen Members’ understanding of the Petroleum Industry Act’s impact on transforming the oil and gas sector, as well as exploring parliament’s involvement in tax reforms and the importance of effective oversight in public financial management and tax administration.
Key stakeholders expected to participate in the two-day retreat include Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group CEO of NNPCL, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and Dr. Orj, the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Oil & Gas.
The event promises to be a crucial platform for discussions and insights into legislative strategies for economic transformation and development.
