The Minister announces Tinubu’s plan to inaugurate 1,500 Renewed Hope housing units in Kano, promoting affordable housing.
Soon, President Bola Tinubu is set to unveil 1,500 Renewed Hope houses in Unguwar Rimi located within Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
On Sunday, during his visit to the new location for phase two of the Kano City initiative, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa – Minister of Housing and Urban Development – revealed this information.
According to Dangiwa, the project has been endorsed by the President and he will conduct a ceremonial groundbreaking event in person shortly.
According to him, the project constitutes a noteworthy step in tackling Nigeria’s housing deficiency.
After starting the construction of 500 housing units in Lambu, another project has been initiated that signifies a considerable expansion within Tofa Local Government Area.
The establishment of model cities across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is part of a broader urban development strategy by the Federal Government. The Renewed Hope housing scheme plays an integral role in this plan.

According to him, there are plans for city projects in Enugu, Nasarawa, Port Harcourt, Lagos and Maiduguri which will have a significant impact across the country. These developments are parallel to that of Kano’s upcoming project.
The minister mentioned that the funding for the 500 housing units in Lambu will come from the ministry’s budget, but a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement has been made to carry out the larger project of constructing 1,500 units.
Dangiwa clarified that this inventive funding approach makes certain that private developers contribute ample funds, thus ensuring the project’s uninterrupted progression.
He stated that they have hand-picked private developers who possess both the financial capacity and technical proficiency required to carry out a project of this magnitude. He expressed certainty in their competence to furnish superior housing accommodations within the designated timeframe.
Moreover, the minister stressed that aside from addressing Kano’s housing predicament, these residential projects would generate employment opportunities for both professionals and artisans in the region. Consequently, this will enhance economic development at a local level.
Upon examining the progress on the construction of 500 housing units in Lambu, the minister conveyed dissatisfaction with how slowly things were moving and cautioned the contractor to quicken their efforts or face severe repercussions.
He cautioned that the present work on site falls short of our expectations. You should have made a lot more progress at this point in time. If there is no significant improvement by the next inspection, which will take place next week, we’ll assign unfinished parts of the project to another contractor.
Additionally, he advised the contractor to hire additional staff in order to satisfy the project’s deadline of December.
Dangiwa emphasized, “Your job was awarded to you because we recognize your capability. There are numerous individuals who aspire for positions like this one. Our goal is to commission the project by year-end.”
