President Bola Tinubu met with Christopher Asher Wray, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from the United States, on Friday. During their meeting at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the commitment of Nigeria to eradicate terrorism, cybercrime, and other criminal activities. He also stressed the importance of collaboration between Nigeria and other West African countries to address the issue of crimes in the region.
Tinubu expressed his satisfaction with the efforts made by various agencies in Nigeria to minimize these crimes. He highlighted the significance of collaboration, stating that the elimination of crimes requires joint efforts. As the Chairman of ECOWAS, Tinubu mentioned that Nigeria is actively working with other West African nations to combat economic and related crimes.
The President acknowledged the visit of Director Christopher Wray as a recognition of the partnership between Nigeria and the United States in the fight against crimes. He praised the FBI for its consistent procedural sophistication and excellent reputation. Tinubu emphasized the shared interest of both countries in eliminating crimes locally and globally.
Tinubu also discussed his administration’s focus on education as a means to combat poverty, which is often linked to criminal activities. He emphasized that no country can effectively tackle financial crimes alone and called on the United States to support developing nations by providing them with the necessary technology and knowledge transfer to combat complex international crimes.
Director Wray mentioned that he was in Nigeria to strengthen the excellent partnership between the Nigerian government and the United States government.
