Amid the unrest in the Niger Republic, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu claims that a war is not the best course of action for Nigeria’s economic reforms.

Following a meeting between Tinubu and Ambassador Molly Phee, the US Presidential Envoy and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Aguri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, revealed this on Saturday.

Tinubu urged the US to work with the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, to strengthen democracy in the West African area.

He stated that ECOWAS was still dedicated to looking into all possibilities for reestablishing democracy in the Niger Republic.

We are making serious efforts to use diplomatic means to resolve the Niger conflict peacefully. I continue to hold back ECOWAS until all other corrective measures have been tried, notwithstanding its preparedness for any choice. War is not the best course of action for my economic reforms or the region, but defending democracy is inviolable. We won’t let anyone purchase time dishonestly, according to the ECOWAS consensus, he stated.

The Nigerien democracy was weakened on July 26 by a military junta.
