The new Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, was officially sworn in by President Bola Tinubu.
At 1:00 pm on Monday, the swearing-in ceremony was held in the Council Chamber of Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. This occurred right before commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, who was the Head of Service (HoS) from March 4, 2020, until her retirement on August 12, 2024 after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 has been succeeded by Walson-Jack. President Tinubu approved Walson-Jack’s appointment nearly a month before his official swearing-in date which happened on July 17th.
President Tinubu recognized the importance of Walson-Jack’s new position at the ceremony, affirming that “you are entering into a substantial responsibility.

We implore God to proceed in directing you and bestowing upon you wisdom as well as bolstering your integrity so that you can efficiently serve this country and civil service.”
Tinubu conveyed his appreciation towards Dr. Yemi-Esan, the former HoS, for her remarkable term and steadfast allegiance to the nation. He acknowledged her service with deep gratitude as she steps down from office.
Walson-Jack was born in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on August 27th, 1966. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in1987.
Her impressive career highlights include serving as Solicitor-General for Bayelsa State and becoming Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice by July 2002.
Starting her federal civil service profession with The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, she functioned as pioneer state coordinator for Rivers State Office there after that time period..
Prior to her current position, Walson-Jack held the office of Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education since January 2024 and is also a graduate of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Plateau State, Nigeria.
President Tinubu led the FEC meeting after being sworn in, which had been delayed to discuss nationwide protests with Security Chiefs.
The council is set to discuss various significant matters, among them infrastructure undertakings in Kano, Benue, and Abia states. These projects were earlier held back for additional evaluation.
