President Bola Tinubu submitted the National Anti-Doping Bill, 2024 and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Statutory Appropriation Act 2024, Supplementary Bill to the Senate on Thursday, May 16.
The letters of request were presented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin during the plenary session, where he presided over the proceedings.
Tinubu specifically emphasized the urgency of passing the Anti-Doping Bill before the upcoming Olympic Games in July this year.
The bill aims to establish a nationally independent anti-doping organization, a crucial step for Nigeria to comply with global anti-doping regulations and standards set by signatories.

The President highlighted that the implementation of this legislation would not only ensure Nigeria’s adherence to anti-doping protocols but also prevent any potential consequences or restrictions on the country’s participation in regional, continental, or global sporting events.
Tinubu expressed his hope for the Senate’s prompt consideration and approval of the bill to align with the Paris Olympic Games scheduled for July 2024.
Additionally, Tinubu urged the Senate to swiftly review and pass the FCTA Statutory Appropriation Act, 2024 Supplementary Bill in a separate communication.
This bill’s approval is essential for the effective allocation of funds and resources within the Federal Capital Territory Administration for the fiscal year 2024.
