President Bola Tinubu has urged all parties involved in the impending Edo State governorship election to uphold peace and respect the democratic process.

His Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, conveyed his message through a statement headed “President Tinubu Urges Peace and Civility in Edo State Governorship Elections.”

Three prominent candidates are vying for Edo State’s governorship on Saturday, September 21, 2024: Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). There will likely be fierce competition in this election.

In his statement, President Tinubu expressed his belief in the capacity of Edo voters to make wise decisions and urged all political candidates, their parties, and supporters to respect the democratic process. He emphasized that for a democracy to flourish, tolerance, decorum, and obedience to election laws are crucial.

In addition to applauding the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) dedication to a transparent election, Tinubu asked all parties involved to help maintain a calm and organized procedure.

Additionally, he commended the candidates for concentrating their campaigns on matters that mattered to Edo citizens, such bettering the city’s economy and standard of living.

President Tinubu urged INEC staff to uphold impartiality in order to protect the integrity of the election during his concluding remarks, expressing complete trust in their professionalism and neutrality.
