Nigeria is concerned about democracy and regional peace, according to President Bola Tinubu.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who serves as chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, has sent a mission to the Niger Republic with instructions to swiftly settle the nation’s present political deadlock.
The action followed the ECOWAS extraordinary summit decision that was agreed upon at its conclusion, which took place last weekend in Abuja.
Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President, stated that the team, led by former Nigerian Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), departed for Niamey on Thursday after receiving a briefing from President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Omar Alieu Touray, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, are also members of the delegation with the previous head of state of Nigeria.
Additionally, the President has dispatched a different group, led by Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, to discuss the Niger problem with Libyan and Algerian officials.
In his briefing to the two delegations, President Tinubu tasked them with engaging all parties forcefully in order to achieve a successful and amicable resolution of the situation in Niger for the benefit of African peace and development rather than a move to adopt the geopolitical positions of other countries.
“We don’t want to keep anyone on the hook. The President stated, “Democracy and regional peace are our main concerns.
Following the discussion, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd) stated that the delegation would meet the coup leaders in Niger to explain the demands of the ECOWAS leadership.
In regards to the results of their respective assignments, the two mission leaders both voiced hope.
