Tinubu Returns to Abuja After AU Meeting in Ghana

After attending the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU) in Accra, Ghana, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has now travelled back to Abuja.

Senior government officials greeted him when he arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 10 PM on Sunday.

As the Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu gave a briefing on the recent developments and progress made by the regional organization during his visit. His speech not only outlined their accomplishments but also drew attention to persistent obstacles faced by ECOWAS.

Activation of a standby force to combat terrorism falls under counter-terrorism.

Improving electoral and governance processes in member states leads to increased support for elections.

Economic integration involves the process of consolidating a free trade area, customs union and common market.

The sum of $9 million has been allocated towards humanitarian efforts, aimed at providing assistance to individuals in need and supporting member states on the frontlines who are combatting terrorism.

Progress achieved in various sectors including education, healthcare, energy, mining and agriculture.

Difficulties:

There are numerous threats that persist, including geopolitical tensions, terrorism, food scarcity, climate fluctuations and false information.

President Tinubu restated ECOWAS’ pledge to promoting harmony by engaging in transparent conversations with member countries. He disclosed intentions of organizing a unique and exceptional conference aimed at plotting the trajectory for the community’s future direction.

Moreover, President Tinubu held talks with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh during the AU gathering. They both concurred to boost their collaboration and further common interests.

President Tinubu’s visit highlights his involvement in regional diplomacy and dedication to tackling the opportunities and challenges within ECOWAS.
