The Nigerian leader engaged in bilateral discussions with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), who commended President Tinubu’s reforms.

He informed the IMF chief, “With so many children out of school and education being a pathway out of hunger and poverty, we are developing strategies and incentives to ensure these children remain in school. We need your support for those eager to continue their education.”

Tinubu stated, “We are involving stakeholders and raising awareness among Nigerians to broaden the tax base of the economy for inclusive growth. Our aim is to achieve this without necessarily imposing higher taxes on our citizens who have already contributed significantly. We will need your support in this effort.”

Tinubu mentioned that Nigeria is implementing tax reforms to further boost the economy.

He stated, “There are far too many children not attending school, and we understand that education is a key to escaping hunger and poverty. That’s why we’re creating strategies and incentives to ensure these children remain in school, but we need your support for those who wish to continue their education.”

A high-ranking delegation joined Tinubu at the summit, featuring Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs; along with the Ministers responsible for Livestock Development and Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity.

The G20 comprises 19 member nations: Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan; Mexico; the Republic of Korea; Russia; Saudi Arabia; South Africa & Türkiye. This is alongside the European Union.
