Recalling the former President’s distinguished contribution to the country during his tenure as both President and Head of State, Tinubu praised the former President’s unmatched leadership abilities and accomplishments.
The president praised Buhari for his exceptional track record of building infrastructure, which included dozens of new dams, power plants, oil and gas infrastructure, motorways, mega-bridges, and many new international airports in addition to several standard-gauge railway lines and new seaport developments.
In addition, he said that among many other accomplishments, Buhari was also responsible for the creation of Nigeria’s first-ever national social investment and protection scheme.
The President remembered with affection the former President’s vigorous efforts to modernise Nigeria’s defence structure and work towards import substitution through the progressive drive to improve food security that empowered millions of Nigerian farmers.
According to Tinubu, Buhari embodies the best example of selflessness, loyalty, patriotism, and commitment to the country’s goals.
“President Buhari belongs to the rarest group of moral servant leaders in the phylum. His life’s work has been dedicated to serving the country; in fact, his patriotism and loyalty to our Fatherland have landed him in jail. Only by divine design can leaders such as my close friend Buhari come to power. He is a man of pure, unwavering integrity. The President declared, “His yes is yes and his no is no.”
Tinubu expressed gratitude to Buhari for his friendship and the faith he placed in the administration by supporting it.
Assuring the former President that the goal of a happy, peaceful, and progressive Nigeria, for which he had always toiled, would not be crushed, Tinubu wished the older statesman longevity and vigour.
