President Bola Tinubu has shown a commitment to promoting national unity and cohesiveness as important components of his Renewed Hope Agenda, according to State Minister of Defence Bello Matawalle.
In a speech titled “Strengthening National Unity for Security and Development in Nigeria,” Matawalle made this claim at the opening of the National Defence College Course 32 on Friday in Abuja.
Threats to national unity, security, and prosperity, he claimed, continue to be a top focus for President Tinubu’s administration as they pursue his Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the minister, Nigeria is beset by insecurity that is caused by, among other things, insurgency, sectionalism, banditry, demands for resource control, tribalism, and religious intolerance.
He said that the President has taken steps to resolve some of the major problems that appeared to be endangering Nigeria’s national unity, particularly in the field of political appointments.
President Tinubu, he asserted, has shown a dedication to the inclusion of all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
Additionally, when attending the UN General Assembly in New York, President Tinubu spoke with Nigerians living abroad and urged them to return home to help build their country.
These are only a few of the various initiatives made to bring back Nigeria’s national cohesion.
“However, pockets of problems like terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and militancy continue to persist in some areas of the nation, in addition to the effects of the loss of oil subsidies.
In order to strengthen national unity for Nigeria’s security and development, he added, “you will all agree with me that this present government has recorded a lot of achievements in tackling not only the manifestations of the challenges, but, more importantly, their root causes.”
