Tinubu orders the resolution of disputes with the UAE regarding the airline Emirates and visa issuance
In response to the diplomatic dispute between Nigeria and the UAE, the President stated that he is prepared to “personally” interfere.
Issues with the Emirates Airline and the granting of visas to Nigerians must be “immediately” handled, according to President Bola Tinubu.
The President issued the order on Thursday while hosting Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE ambassador, in the State House in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
At the State House, Al-Shamsi and two envoys presented letters of credence to Tinubu. Awall Wagris Mohammed, ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Mrs. Miriam Morales Palmero, ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, are the other two representatives.
Flight restrictions between Nigeria and the UAE have a long history and are often caused by unsolved problems with the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). Later, visa limitations emerged as diplomatic tensions between Nigeria and the UAE, a popular travel and migratory destination for Nigerians.
Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s spokesperson, said that the President stressed his readiness to “personally” intervene in the diplomatic dispute between Nigeria and the UAE.
“We are a family with UAE; even though we only have our own rooms, we share a home. We should approach the problems as a family matter and find a peaceful solution. You’re aware that every family has its quirks. You may have a rebellious son or daughter, but we still need to cooperate. Core aviation and immigration concerns must be resolved, the President reportedly said.
The UAE Ambassador stated that he already considers himself to be a “Nigerian” in light of the nation’s historical roots, its protracted leadership position in Africa, and its well-known reputation for welcoming visitors.
“I have worked on 24 agreements since I arrived in the nation. We are making progress. These are minor problems that only affect one household and will be remedied. I’m appreciative to be in Nigeria right now.
“I am also honoured to have met His Excellency President Tinubu, a superb leader in Nigeria and throughout Africa. Please consider me a member of your team and accept me as a Nigerian, he pleaded.
