This is in response to the resurgence of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) shortages across the nation, which followed Tinubu’s declaration in his inauguration speech on Monday that “fuel subsidies have been eliminated.”

President Bola Tinubu met with Abdulrasheed Bawa, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and Mele Kyari, chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

This is in response to the resurgence of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) shortages across the nation, which followed Tinubu’s declaration in his inauguration speech on Monday that “fuel subsidies have been eliminated.”

Wednesday, May 31, 2023, EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa and NNPCL Chief Mele Kyari met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Emerging from the private meeting in the President’s Abuja office on Wednesday, the EFCC chairman declined to provide details of the meeting, instead telling reporters that he was there to brief the President.

Meanwhile, the President is currently engaged in a bilateral meeting with the Special Envoy of the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Peng Qinghua, as of Wednesday, 4:15 p.m.

This meeting takes place less than 72 hours after envoys from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia pledged their support for the Tinubu administration.

Mr. Peng, who led the Chinese delegation that attended the inauguration, was accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, and his delegate.
