Tinubu Makes New Appointment in Key Government Position

President Tinubu has announced a new appointment to a crucial government position. Discover the details of the appointee and their expected contributions to the administration.

The National Coordinator of the Sector-wide Coordinating Office-Programme Management Unit (SCO-PMU) located in the office of the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muntaqa Sadiq, has been approved by President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, the formation of the unit has resulted in this appointment.

According to Ngelale, the implementation of the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII) will be supported by a unit that guarantees effective and transparent management of external grants. The unit also pledges accountability in its operations towards achieving this objective.

In addition, he indicated that the SCO-PMU would be accountable to a Ministerial Oversight Committee/Steering Committee headed by the Minister himself.

This committee comprises members such as the Permanent Secretary of State, Ministry of Finance officials, Budget and Economic Planning personnel as well as relevant development partners.

A national coordinator (NC) will lead the SCO-PMU, which acts as both secretariat and delivery unit for the NHSRII.

The SCO-PMU carries out various tasks, such as overseeing programs and their progress, assessing outcomes, collaborating with Independent Verification Agents (IVAs) to ensure compliance with NHSRII initiatives and managing finances in a trustworthy manner.

He stated, “Dr. Muntaqa Umar Sadiq has been appointed as the National Coordinator of SCO-PMU with the approval of the President.”

According to Obasanjonews.com, Sadiq possesses more than 17 years’ worth of expertise in various fields such as public health, impact investing, investment banking, climate financing and energy across different sectors including finance, energy and climate.

Previously, he held the positions of Head in charge of Performance Management and Delivery Unit at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as well as Chief Executive Officer overseeing operations at Private Sector Health Alliance in Nigeria.

Additionally, he held positions at the World Bank as Private Sector Engagement Adviser and Head of Nigeria Energy Transition Office.
