ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu asserts that Sen Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was the sole target of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) currency redesign strategy.

When discussing the hardships Nigerians are going through as a result of the CBN naira redesign, Kachikwu made this assertion.

This was stated at a news conference held by the ADC presidential flagbearer on Friday in Abuja.

According to Kachikwu, “The naira makeover was ill-timed, badly executed, and created solely to harm the APC Presidential Candidate, Senator Bola Tinubu.

“This has already been verified by Kaduna State Governor Nasir El Rufai.

“I once more issue a warning against letting Nigeria descend into anarchy in the desperate attempt to remove Tinubu.

It is heartbreaking to watch that Nigerians have lost their lives, that banks have burned down, that property has been damaged, and that millions of people are suffering as they urgently try to access an unobtainable naira.

“Millions of Nigerians work in the unorganised sector and receive daily cash wages ranging from N500 to N10,000,” he continued.

“The majority of them reside in underbanked or unbanked areas of Nigeria, and they currently bear the burden of this poorly thought-out policy.

As leaders, don’t we have any morals? How can we go to sleep at night knowing that Nigerians are standing in lines outside banks all night long to obtain N5000?

Poor Nigerians are responsible for the failures caused by this recoloring.

“This is horrible; Nigerians shouldn’t have to die because politicians are battling for the very soul of our country.”

This coincides with a rising shortage of fresh naira notes across Nigeria.

With protests happening concurrently across Nigeria earlier this week, irate Nigerians increased the pressure.

President Muhammadu Buhari issued a directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday to step up cooperation with various anti-corruption agencies in halting the actions of individuals determined to obstruct the implementation of the currency reform programme.
