Tinubu is tasked by the Arewa Economic Forum to promote equity and inclusion in appointment
President Bola Tinubu has been encouraged by the socioeconomic pressure group Arewa Economic Forum to be fair and equitable in the selection of qualified Nigerians for posts in the government.
In a news conference held on Wednesday in Abuja, the Chairman of the Forum, Ibrahim Dandakata, notably mentioned appointments to the finance ministry and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The selection of Mr. Wale Edun as the Minister of Finance and Folashodun Shonubi as Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), both of whom are citizens of a specific region of the nation, could send the incorrect signals, according to Dandakata.
The choice of Bosun Tijani as the minister of communications and the digital economy, among others, who are from the same country’s zone as Edun and Shonubi, was also noted by the speaker as having the potential to send the incorrect signals.
Dandakata asked Tinubu to hunt for qualified Nigerians throughout the entire nation in order to be inclusive and fair.
“As you may know, banking and ICT are essential to the economic paradise the president hopes to build for Nigeria.
“The Federal Ministry of Finance manages the federation’s finances, including regulating and overseeing federal receipts and outlays,”
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and the Digital Economy promotes the growth of the ICT sector in order to raise the sector’s GDP contribution.
“The two ministries play greater roles in facilitating businesses, e-commerce, job creation, empowerment, and increased efficiency and productivity, which are vital for economic growth and prosperity,” he said.
According to him, we must exercise caution while making decisions in the financial and ICT industries due to their significance.
Nevertheless, he applauded the president for keeping in place several effective agency heads.
“Tinubu has a responsibility to not only be fair to all areas of the country, but also to be seen to be fair to all parts, as a patriotic, well-educated leader who gained a credible national mandate in February.
In the meantime, we must applaud the president for keeping on board several effective CEOs of top organisations in the economic and technological sectors, such Bello Hassan of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation and Kashifu Inuwa of the National Information Technology Development Agency.
We think that more capable, knowledgeable, and experienced technocrats from the North can be appointed to lead important economic sectors, he said. (NAN)
