Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola’s relatives from Gbagura in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to recognise the late lawmaker as the head of state elected by democratic means.

This was said on Wednesday by the relatives of the Tobade Progressive Club of Gbagura in a statement that was approved by Chief Shamwill Keshinro, the club’s president.

They emphasised the necessity of reexamining the 1993 presidential election and mentioned the tremendous sacrifices made by hundreds of Nigerians, including the late MKO Abiola, in order to bring democracy back in 1999.

In order to start the political and legal process of recognising Chief MKO Abiola as the legitimate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Tobade Progressive Club of Gbagura, which is home to the kinsmen and kinswomen of the chief in Gbagura, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, is requesting that the federal government invoke the Doctrine of Necessity.

Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, or GCFR, is the highest national title bestowed posthumously on MKO Abiola by the Buhari administration.

Chief MKO Abiola was sworn in as the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s democratically elected president, however Chief Keshinro emphasised that this action by former President Muhammadu Buhari suggested a political path.

They also praised Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State, for renovating MKO Abiola’s family home in Oja Agbo, Oke-Iddo, Gbagura, Abeokuta.
