Tinubu introduces the first electric taxis in Maiduguri, Nigeria

On Monday, in Maiduguri, President Bola Tinubu officially opened 107 mass transit vehicles, including 50 electric taxis that the Borno State government had purchased.

Speaking during the ceremony, the President commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his foresight and people-oriented policies and programmes.

He said that in order to facilitate transportation and generate jobs, the Federal Government intended to establish a facility in that area.

Zulum had earlier stated that the loss of the fuel subsidy and a direction from the President to the governors were what spurred him to start the project.

According to him, the introduction of fifty electric taxis was a first for Nigeria and aligned with the reality of climate change.

According to NAN, the President officially unveiled 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 opulent buses.

During his first official visit to the state, Tinubu made a courtesy call on Abubakar El-Kanemi, the Shehu of Borno, while he was in Maiduguri.

Additionally, the President opened the yearly Chief of Army Staff Conference.
