The Nigerian president urged world cooperation and unity in order to address urgent issues, promote inclusivity, and create a more just international system.
On Saturday in New Delhi, India, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to playing a significant part in the G20 and helping to create a more just world.
Tinubu made this declaration when addressing international leaders at the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit, according to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
He claimed that the Nigerian president called for international cooperation and solidarity in addressing urgent issues, promoting inclusivity, and constructing a more just global order.
President Tinubu emphasised that the majority of today’s urgent issues are “international in character and cannot be addressed without multilateral cooperation” while recognising the crucial role the G20 plays in establishing a rules-based international order that fosters shared prosperity and security.
“Therefore, paths to a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for our planet lie in deeper collaboration, cooperation, and partnerships among varied regions.
“For this reason, it is impossible to overstate the importance of the G20’s role in establishing a just and rule-based global order. It is impossible to have shared prosperity in a world where most people have unequal access to fundamental social services and massive financial disparities separate us from living as a single family.
“I hasten to add that any global governance structures and rules of our collective aspirations must be cooperatively created, owned, and administered. This is in line with the fundamental meaning of One Family, respect for others, and sustainable growth.
Without Nigeria, the G-20 family would be lacking, he added. “Nigeria is poised, able and willing to be a major player in this family of the G-20 and in shaping a new world.”
The president of Nigeria commended India for hosting the historic summit and for the country’s successful moon landing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inspirational leadership.
He said the accomplishment should serve as motivation for other emerging nations in the Global South.
The Nigerian president expressed his approval of the decision to include the African Union (AU) in the G20, adding that it “opens potential for future membership of the organisation in a manner that reflects the relative balance of power and inclusiveness of mankind as One Family.
President Tinubu reflected on the summit’s theme, “One Earth. One Family. One Future,” and emphasised the interconnection of world issues and the demand for coordinated actions.
He emphasised the significance of addressing issues with technology, the transition to renewable energy, and loan availability, as well as the widening socioeconomic gap between those who have and those who do not.
The President called for stronger international cooperation and charged developed nations with assisting underdeveloped areas in the Global South and advancing climate justice.
Additionally, President Tinubu urged the development of global frameworks for governance and resource mobilisation that are based on the ideas of justice, equity, and fairness.
President Tinubu emphasised the size of the difficulties facing humanity today in his speech on the sub-theme of Session II of the Summit, One Family.
“As a result, it is more important than ever that we cooperate as a single family. No matter one’s economic, social, or political status, we must work to extend and deepen the ownership of our planet in order to build an inclusive society where everyone has access to the needs of life.
President Tinubu asked the wealthy economies, the Global North, and multilateral institutions to mobilise funds and focus efforts where they are most needed in the underdeveloped Global South.
By doing this, the President continued, “we will be constructing a society anchored on the strong values of tolerance and mutual respect, where diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation take precedence over competition, conflict, and divisions, which are based on rigid ideologies and belief systems.”
