Tinubu Imposes Three-Vehicle Convoy Limit for Ministers

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has implemented a new directive limiting ministers to a three-vehicle convoy as part of his administration’s cost-cutting measures. Learn more about the decision and its impact.

To reduce expenses, President Bola Tinubu has limited ministers and heads of departments and agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced in a statement on Thursday that they will not be provided with any extra vehicles for transportation.

Tinubu also directed that ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies should each have no more than five security personnel assigned to them.

The security team will consist of four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS).

“No more security personnel will be allocated,” he stated.

The President directed Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), to collaborate with military, paramilitary, and security agencies in assessing an appropriate decrease in their use of vehicles and deployment of security personnel.

“All impacted officials must adhere to these new measures immediately, highlighting the urgency and importance of these changes,” stated Onanuga.

Earlier in January, the President decreased his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials. For domestic trips, he reduced it to 25 officials.

He likewise limited Vice President Kashim Shettima’s entourage to five officials for international trips and 15 for domestic travel.
