Tinubu has promised to purchase 3,000 CNG-powered buses for mass transit
Tinubu stated that “these buses will be shared to major transport companies in the states, using the intensity of travel per capital.”
President Bola Tinubu has vowed to build buses for public transit in states and local governments at a significantly lower cost.
He stated that his government has allocated N100 billion between now and March 2024 for the procurement of 3,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered 20-seater buses.
This is one of several palliatives announced by the President during a national broadcast on Monday to help Nigerians cope with the loss of fuel subsidies.
“These buses will be shared with major transportation companies in the states,” Tinubu says, “using the intensity of travel per capital.”
He went on to say that participating transport companies will be able to get credit through this facility at 9% per year with a 60-month repayment period.
The President also stated that the administration is working with labour unions to establish a new national minimum wage for workers.
“I want to inform our employees that your salary review is on its way,” he stated.
“Once we have reached an agreement on the new minimum wage and general upward review, we will make budget provisions for its immediate implementation.”
He also praised numerous private firms in the Organised Private Sector for implementing general salary reviews for employees.
While acknowledging that the current era may be difficult for the people, Tinubu urged Nigerians to look past the present transitory difficulties and focus on the bigger picture, noting that “all of our good and helpful plans are in the works.” More importantly, I am confident that they will be effective.”
The President also acknowledged that there was an unavoidable lag between the elimination of subsidies and the implementation of these measures, but stated that the administration is working hard to close the gap.
“I plead with you to please have faith in our ability to deliver and in our concern for your well-being,” he added.
