The Sokoto-Badagry Highway is now under construction, thanks to President Bola Tinubu’s approval.
The states of Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos would all be crossed by the roadway.
He made this revelation while authorising the National Construction and Household Support Programme to begin immediately and extend to all of the nation’s geopolitical zones.
In addition to giving Nigerians immediate financial assistance, the project would increase agricultural productivity and build the economy by generating opportunities in the manufacturing, construction, and agriculture sectors.
Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the National Economic Council, or NEC, meeting, Tinubu urged state governors to collaborate in order to satisfy citizens’ needs and said he is prepared to offer the necessary assistance to guarantee that Nigerians are freed from suffering.

Other targeted road infrastructure projects include the Trans-Saharan Highway, which connects Enugu, Abakaliki, Ogoja, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Abuja, and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, all of which are now under construction.
The Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Railway, which will cross Rivers, Abia, Enugu, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Borno, as well as the Ibadan-Abuja section of the Lagos-Kano Standard-Gauge Railway, which will cross Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Niger, Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, have also received full counterpart financing from the President.
The Sokoto-Badagry road project has been given exceptional priority due to its significance, as it will pass through several states that are crucial to the country’s agricultural viability.
There are 216 agricultural villages, 58 major and medium-sized dams dispersed throughout six states, seven Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones, 156 local government areas, 39 commercial centres and towns, and more than one million hectares of fertile land within the Sokoto-Badagry Highway corridor.
The President stated: “The Sokoto-Badagry Highway is a pivotal project as the states within this axis form the nation’s food belt, with Badagry being an important artery for food export.” He also emphasised the need of increasing food production.
