Prof Wole Soyinka, the renowned Nigerian playwright, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu disregarded his counsel against running for the presidency.

During a courtesy visit to Tinubu’s residence in Lagos, Soyinka expressed his intention to check on the President and his wife, despite their decision to overlook his advice.

The esteemed literary figure further disclosed that he presented a comprehensive seven-point agenda to the President during their meeting, which he described as an “awkward” encounter. Soyinka elaborated on his previous attempt to dissuade both Tinubu and Atiku from pursuing political positions, emphasizing the importance of allowing young individuals to take the reins.

Reflecting on their last meeting approximately five years ago, Soyinka’s visit aimed to assess how Tinubu and his wife were coping with the challenges facing Nigeria, while also extending his Christmas greetings to them.
