Tuesday, in an effort to lessen the impact of the termination of the petrol subsidy, President Bola Tinubu ordered the urgent evaluation of the proposed N8,000 to 12 million households in Nigeria for a period of six months.

Dele Alake, the President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, released a statement on behalf of Tinubu, who also directed that Nigerians be given access to the full scope of the federal government’s palliative package.

The statement stated, “In the last few days, the conventional and new media platforms have become awash with stories of the government intending to embark on conditional cash transfers to vulnerable households, mostly affected by the painful but essential decision to remove subsidy on petrol.”

The Federal Government is reportedly considering giving N8,000 per month for six months to 12 million of the poorest of the poorest households as a government palliative to ease the suffering that Nigerians are feeling as a result of the loss of subsidies, according to widely circulated reports.

Not a few detractors have inserted a lot of inaccurate assumptions into the curriculum. According to the administration, wherever there is a prohibition, a provision must follow. Since the government stopped subsidies, the hydra-headed monster that threatened to destroy the economy, Nigerians can now benefit from a wide range of relief measures.

While it should be noted that the cash initiative is not the only component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s comprehensive package of relief measures, the President has directed as follows in his capacity as a listening leader who has sworn to always place Nigerians at the centre of his policy and programme:

“That the N8,000 conditional cash distribution plan, which was designed to aid the most needy households, be reviewed right now. In recognition of the opposition from Nigerians, this has been done.

That Nigerians be given access to the full range of government relief measures.

“Immediate distribution of cereals and fertilisers to the FCT, the 36 states, and an estimated 50 million farmers and families, respectively.

“The President also assures Nigerians that the N500 billion allocated by parliament to ease the suffering brought on by the end of the subsidy system will be wisely used. Nigerians of all ages, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political persuasion, shall be the recipients of the reliefs.

“President Bola Tinubu has vowed to always put Nigerians’ well-being first, and he is steadfastly devoted to this commitment. This position has been strengthened by a number of choices made thus far by this Administration.

“As you may recall, the President made a decision along these lines after hearing complaints from the business community and other stakeholders about onerous taxes, notably the multitude of levies they are forced to pay. This called for the issuance of four (4) Executive Orders, four of which suspended the implementation dates for some tax classes while abolishing them altogether.

Additionally, the President has established a Tax Reform/economic Policy Committee to make recommendations that will create a stable economic climate for the nation and remove barriers to enterprise.

“I want to reassure Nigerians that President Tinubu would continue to be an attentive leader who will pay attention to the opinions expressed by the populace. President Obama has made it quite apparent that he believes that the purpose of government is to serve the needs of the people.

According to Obasanjonews24, Tinubu had expressed his desire to the National Assembly in a plea to do so, highlighting the Federal Government’s National Safety Net Program’s objective to provide for the welfare of the nation’s vulnerable and impoverished households.

According to Tinubu, 12 million households with low incomes and those who are vulnerable will receive the N8,000 in digital transfers each month.
