The All Progressives Congress, or APC, said that its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, did not blame President Muhammadu Buhari for the lack of gasoline and the falling value of the naira.
Bayo Onanuga, the media director for the APC Campaign Council, says that Nigerians should no longer have any doubts about those who work with “fifth columnists” to hurt their own people for political reasons.
Onanuga said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, reacted quickly after Tinubu said he felt sorry for the people who were going through both the gasoline shortage and the naira note shortage.
In a statement released on Thursday, the PDP spokesperson was criticized for “going off topic,” twisting Tinubu’s words, and trying to drive a wedge between him and the President.
He emphasized that the flagbearer “did not name, criticize, or condemn President Muhammadu Buhari for the current difficulties in the country” during a campaign event in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Asiwaju Tinubu was merely drawing attention away from the sabotage being carried out by a few Fifth Columnists within the system, who may have been in collaboration with the PDP.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and other authorities, including Governor Godwin Emefiele, verified that the banks had received enough fresh notes, but the APC said that Nigerians are still complaining about a lack of supply.
“Tinubu is aware of the commendable efforts made by President Buhari to eliminate the gasoline lines by presiding over a panel of 14 men. but the lines and pain never end.
“A presidential contender who cares about the suffering of our people has a duty to remind the government that its attempts to improve conditions for Nigerians are being thwarted on numerous fronts,” the statement reads.
Onanuga said that Tinubu had only confirmed what the President already knew, which is that there are people inside and outside of the government who work against its plans and goals.

The APC campaign council told the PDP, “Remember not to get high on your own smoke.” The council was adamant that political blackmail or trying to pit Tinubu against Buhari would not work.
Whether he runs for office or not, Onanuga warned Nigerians that Tinubu would not appear unconcerned as his party and the government “become dirty with a black brush at a vital moment like this.”
The statement said, “The Atiku camp’s quick decision to mine political currency out of the obviously tough circumstances indicates his campaign’s likely connivance, due to its desperation.”
The APC went on to claim that despite “these planned challenges,” voters will support Tinubu on February 25 because they “will vote for a party that is striving to repair all the problems and mess produced by the PDP.”
