The Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, leader Nnamdi Kanu was not released by President Bola Tinubu, as reported by media on Tuesday. The Presidency refuted these claims.
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, branded the stories as false information.
Onanuga clarified that Tinubu never met with Igbo businesspeople with the intention of freeing Kanu in a statement that he made public.
According to reports, Tinubu disclosed that Uzodinma had thwarted his government’s attempts to free Kanu from prison.
According to reports from the meeting, Tinubu stated that the Governor provided justifications for why it was risky to release Kanu ahead of the Imo elections.
“Uzodinma told me the dangers of releasing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu now that the Imo state governorship election is at the corner,” the president is reported to have stated. When our brother Igboho was released a few weeks ago, I had planned to order his release as well, so I was taken aback when the governor of Imo State approached me to change my mind. Encouraging the people in the South East geopolitical zone to live in peace is the reason I’m even trying to have him released. Significant security issues have arisen in the area, where the armed security militia, ESN, has claimed multiple lives. The phoney Uzodimma news

In response, Onanuga encouraged the people of Imo to ignore the purportedly false information about Uzodinma.
The brief statement says, “The people of Imo State should please dismiss the fraudulent rumour that Governor Hope Uzodimma is preventing President Bola Tinubu from releasing IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
“It is evident that the purpose of the fake news is to sow discontent against the governor, who has served his constituents admirably and is deserving of a second term, which will be decided upon on Saturday.
“On Monday, President Tinubu did not meet with Igbo businesspeople. He remained silent about what was said about him. He attributed nothing to Gov. Uzodimma.
