Tinubu Departs Abuja for Energy Summit in Tanzania

President Bola Tinubu has departed Abuja for Tanzania to attend an energy summit, focusing on regional cooperation and investment opportunities in the energy sector.

President Bola Tinubu has left Abuja for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.

The government of Tanzania, in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, is hosting the summit.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stated that the President would collaborate with fellow African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society groups in Dar es Salaam to devise strategies for enhancing energy access across the continent.

According to a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, the Summit is set to offer a platform for exchanging knowledge, expertise, and resources aimed at tackling Africa’s energy challenges.

The discussions will concentrate on speeding up energy access in underserved areas, promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency, and encouraging private sector investment.

Onanuga mentioned that during the summit’s opening day, Nigeria alongside other participating nations will showcase their national energy strategies, known as compacts. These presentations will outline each country’s approach to attaining universal energy access within five years.

He announced that on the second day, heads of state would approve the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which details a unified plan for Africa’s advancement towards achieving the Mission 300 goals.

“President Tinubu announced that he will deliver a national address to reaffirm Nigeria’s dedication to achieving universal energy access and its leading position in Africa’s energy sector.”

Accompanying the President on the trip are Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power; and Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the President on Energy.
