According to Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, President Bola Tinubu asked the state’s deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for a signed resignation letter as part of his involvement in the political unrest in the state.
Following months of political standoff with the governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa chaired the state executive council meeting on Thursday.

Following Tinubu’s demand for the warring groups loyal to Aiyedatiwa and Akeredolu to resolve the political situation in the state, the executive council meeting took place.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu’s involvement meant that Akeredolu would continue to serve as the state’s governor and Aiyedatiwa as his deputy.
Ademola-Olateju, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Friday, asserted that the President had requested a signed resignation without a date in case something unfortunate occurred.
“Prior to discussing the Abuja summit, I would like to express my gratitude to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for his excellent leadership in handling the Ondo State problem.
We are grateful that he intervened to lower the temperature in Ondo State, which was spiralling out of control. The president, who leads the All Progressives Congress, took important choices at the Abuja gathering. The maintenance of the status quo in the state was one of those crucial considerations.
“He nominated the speaker of the house, the party chairman, and the secretary to the state government to be the enforcers and to prevent further issues. He also decided that the executive council could not be dissolved under any circumstances, that the party structure should be preserved, and that the leadership of the House of Assembly should remain intact.
The commissioner stated, “That is what I know. He asked for the signed resignation letter of Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor undated in case anything untoward happens.”
In addition, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly dropped an appeal against the Federal High Court of Abuja’s decision to stay Aiyedatiwa’s scheduled impeachment from the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The Federal High Court in Abuja was asked to hear the case by the House of Assembly and its Speaker, who also filed an appeal against the court’s decision to stay the deputy governor’s scheduled impeachment.
Remi Olatobura, the Speaker and Assembly’s attorney, informed the appellate court’s three-member panel of justices during Thursday’s sessions that his clients have instructed him to withdraw the case.
The matter’s parties have signed an agreement to drop their appeal and have found a political solution to their issues, the senior attorney informed the court.
Olatubora claims that the appeal is being abandoned in the sake of peace and in accordance with the parties’ agreement.
The respondents in the appeal acknowledged that they received the notice of withdrawal and stated that they had no objections.
The appeal was later dismissed by the three-member panel’s leader, Justice Haruna Tsammani, when the appellants withdrew it.
