Tinubu confirms Adepoju as CG of immigration
President Bola Tinubu has confirmed Wura-Ola Adepoju as the official Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
During the Comptroller General’s Parade on Wednesday, Ms. Adepoju gave the NIS officers the update and said the date of the decoration would be revealed shortly.
She was cited as saying in a statement released by the Public Relations Unit of the Service, “You may also wish to know, that through the grace of God and by the benevolence of the present government, I have been confirmed as a substantive Comptroller General of Immigration.”

When the term of the previous acting Comptroller General (CG), Isah Jere, ended on May 29, Ms. Adepoju, the most senior DCG, was named the acting CG.
Speaking to employees on Wednesday, the newly appointed Comptroller and Governor also announced that certain members of the senior leadership team who passed a promotion exam have been promoted to the position of Deputy Comptrollers General.
She stated that they will shortly reveal the date of their beautification as well.
In addition, the CG asked officers to spend a minute of silence in remembrance of service personnel who passed away a few weeks ago while performing their duties and to pray for the Almighty God to grant them eternal rest.
“The CGI declared that the march honours the memory of our departed colleagues and guaranteed that NIS will never stop providing help to the families who have lost a loved one.
She stated that the Service is setting up an Endowment Fund to support the surviving family members of the deceased.
Members of the NIS management team, stakeholders, and command comptrollers have all contributed. As long as they meet the requirements, widows who are left behind are being given consideration for employment in the Service, according to the statement.
She urged all staff members to remember that our coworkers’ deaths were not in vain and that their families are not abandoned. Instead of giving up.
All officers and men were praised by the CGI for their support of the NIS leadership. She expressed her gratitude in particular to the state comptrollers, passport officers, zonal coordinators, and senior management team both in her native country and abroad.
The issuance of a passport
The CG further advised all Nigerian passport holders to make sure their passports are renewed six months prior to expiration in order to prevent applicants and NIS staff from being unduly pressured.
She also suggested that Nigerians deal with the Service directly rather than using touts.
She also mentioned that applications for passports would soon be paperless, allowing candidates to apply from the convenience of their homes rather than having to visit immigration offices and fill out paper forms.
“We expect many Nigerians from the diaspora to be coming home as we approach the festive period,” the statement continued. The CGI will collaborate with the DCG Border Management, the DCG Passport, and other travel documents to make sure we can help people whose passports are about to expire. To assist them, we will have specific service locations. In order to avoid having to apply for passport renewals on a regular basis, we will also encourage adults to apply for the 64-page, 10-year passport.
Plans are in place to increase our service points overseas under the direction of our current Minister, Olubunmi Tuni-Ojo, in order to relieve the strain that the Japanese syndrome is putting on the few that are now in place.
“The DCG in charge of passports and other travel documents received special recognition for her diligent efforts to guarantee that we can fulfil our responsibility regarding passport administration.
