Tinubu commends Onakoya on his exceptional achievement in chess
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Tunde Onakoya for his remarkable achievement in setting a new world chess record, which has not only brought global recognition to Nigeria but also highlighted the country’s ingenuity.
Onakoya’s incredible feat involved breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon, playing for an astonishing 58 hours and emerging victorious in every match.
In a statement released by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed his admiration for the Nigerian Chess Champion and the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, commending him for his rare accomplishment and the positive image it has projected of Nigeria’s resilience and self-belief on the global stage.

The president also lauded Onakoya for his philanthropic motive behind his pursuit of this record, as he aimed to raise funds for African children to learn and discover opportunities through chess.

He reassured all citizens that his administration remains fully committed to creating and expanding opportunities for the youth to explore and utilize their skills and capabilities to the fullest extent.
