Starting from August 1, Nigerians have been protesting on the streets to voice their discontent regarding deteriorating economic conditions and an increase in inflation.

Security forces have resorted to employing tear gas in cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Kaduna to disperse the crowds due to occasional violent outbursts that occur during protests.

On August 5, during a national speech, Tinubu admitted the grievances of those protesting.
