Tinubu is expected back in Nigeria later this night.

President Tinubu, Bianca Ojukwu, and other dignitaries are scheduled to depart Abuja for Tanzania, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between both nations.

President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.

A statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced that the Summit is being organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with both the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank. The event’s goal is to promote “Mission 300,” an initiative designed to deliver electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.

In Dar es Salaam, leaders from Africa, the private sector, development partners, and civil society organizations will come together to devise strategies for accelerating energy access across the continent.

The Summit will offer a platform to share knowledge, expertise, and resources aimed at tackling Africa’s energy challenges.

The discussions will concentrate on speeding up energy access in underserved areas, promoting renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, and encouraging investment from the private sector.

On the first day, at the ministerial level, participating countries such as Nigeria will outline their national energy strategies—known as compacts—which describe their plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.

On the second day, Heads of State will formally support the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which sets forth a cohesive plan for Africa’s advancement towards achieving the Mission 300 goals.

According to the statement, President Tinubu will make a national address emphasizing Nigeria’s dedication to ensuring universal energy access and its leading position in Africa’s energy industry.
