President Bola Ahmed Tinubu bestowed the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON), the second highest national honor, upon the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in celebration of the monarch’s 90th birthday.
The announcement was made by President Tinubu at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, during the inauguration of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies and the presentation of a book titled “Reinventing Governance in Nigeria:
The Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Model.” Represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu praised Oba Adetona for his contributions to nation-building and his dedication to serving humanity.

The president also commended the monarch for his unwavering character and his efforts in restoring democratic governance in Nigeria.
President Tinubu further announced that the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, would assume responsibility for the management of the Oba Sikiru Adetona School of Governance Studies.
Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun also hailed Oba Adetona as a living legend and a source of pride for Ijebuland and the state.
