President Bola Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate, requesting the confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stated that Tinubu’s action aligns with the nation’s laws.

According to a statement by Onanuga on Friday, President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate requesting the confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede’s appointment as Chief of Army Staff.

In today’s letter, President Tinubu requests Oluyede’s confirmation in line with Section 218(2) of the amended 1999 Constitution and Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act.

Following the illness of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Oluyede was appointed as the Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30.

However, General Lagbaja passed away on November 5 and has been laid to rest in Abuja.
