President Tinubu commends the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for successfully reopening the Warri Refinery, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s energy sector revitalization.

President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his deep satisfaction with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s decision to reopen the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, stated on Monday that this development marks another notable achievement in 2024, bolstering Nigerians’ confidence in his administration.

Today, the Warri Refinery resumed operations just weeks after NNPC Limited restarted the 60,000 barrels-per-day facility at the Port Harcourt Refinery in November.

Following the recommencement of operations at Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) after several years of inactivity, President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing local refining capacity and establishing Nigeria as a central hub for downstream industrial activities in Africa.

“The statement indicated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, led by the All Progressives Congress, awarded the contract for the comprehensive rehabilitation and overhaul of the four state-owned refineries.”

President Tinubu confidently stated that the Warri Refinery, now running at 60% of its 125,000 barrels per day capacity, is a key part of his administration’s successful comprehensive strategy to guarantee energy efficiency and security.

He commended the leadership of Mele Kyari at NNPCL for their efforts in reclaiming Nigeria’s reputation and pride as a leading oil-producing nation.

The reopening of the Warri Refinery today fills me and fellow Nigerians with joy. This achievement boosts our hope and confidence in a brighter future, aligning with what we promised. As the year concludes, this progress is significant, especially after successfully reviving the old Port Harcourt Refinery earlier on. I am also pleased that NNPC Limited is actively following my directive to ensure all four refineries return to optimal operation.

“I commend Mele Kyari and his team at NNPCL for their diligent efforts to revitalize our national pride and establish Nigeria as a key center for crude oil refining in Africa,” stated President Tinubu.

President Tinubu urged NNPCL to expedite the repairs on Kaduna Refinery and the 150,000 barrels per day second refinery in Port Harcourt to strengthen Nigeria’s role as a leading global energy provider.

WRPC will concentrate on the production and storage of essential products such as Straight Run Kerosene (SRK), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), along with both heavy and light Naphtha.
