Tinubu appeals to Senate to confirm 11 A’Court judges for S’Court

To confirm eleven judges from the Appeal Court as justices of the Supreme Court, President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate.

Tinubu’s appeal was read aloud in the upper house of parliament on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The president requested the justices’ promotion to the Supreme Court following the National Judicial Council’s (NJC) recommendation.

Following Centus Nweze’s passing and the retirements of Amina Augie and Dattijo Muhammad, the Supreme Court presently has ten justices.

The supreme court may have up to 21 justices, according to the constitution.

Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Moore Aseimo A. Adumein, Obande Festus Ogbuinya, Stephen Jonah Adah, Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, and Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme are the justices recommended for the supreme court.

The others are Mohammed Baba Idris, Abubakar Sadiq Umar, Jamilu Yammama Tukur, and Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru.

Following his reading of the president’s request, Akpabio said that the nominees will be screened today, Wednesday, before the Senate Committee on Judiciary.
