The appointment of Abdu Mukhtar as the National Coordinator of the Presidential “Unlocking Healthcare Value-Chain” Initiative has been accepted by President Bola Tinubu.
Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, stated in a statement released on Tuesday that the President “seeks to unlock billions of dollars of new investment into the nation’s healthcare-delivery system” with Mukhtar’s appointment.
The programme, which is housed under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, will now be managed by Mukhtar.
Mukhtar is expected to reorganise the health product manufacturing, health logistics, health technology, health retail (e-commerce), health provider facilitation, and health payor reform (third party administrators & insurers) ecosystems through “cross-ministerial collaboration.”
The release said, in part, “Dr. Mukhtar comes to the task as the immediate past Director of Industry & Trade Development at the African Development Bank (AfDB).”
“Dr. Mukhtar was the Group Chief Strategy Officer of the Dangote Group of Industries prior to joining the AfDB. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the conglomerate’s growth of its cement production footprint into fourteen African countries, as well as significant joint ventures in the electricity, oil & gas, and agriculture sectors. This came after serving as the FCTA’s Abuja Investment Company Limited’s CEO from 2007 to 2011 for four years.
“Dr. Mukhtar has a medical degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School, a doctorate in biotechnology from Boston University (USA), and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.”
