President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to leave Abuja on Thursday for N’Djamena, Chad’s capital, to participate in the inauguration of President Mahamat Déby. The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Following Mahamat Déby’s victory in Chad’s presidential election earlier this month, the inauguration is set to take place after the Constitutional Court of Chad affirmed his win. On May 16, the Constitutional Council officially declared Déby president, having secured 61% of the vote, surpassing his competitors Succès Masra and Albert Pahimi Padacké. The Council meticulously reviewed and confirmed the vote tallies, cementing Déby’s triumph.

Ngelale’s statement highlighted that President Tinubu will be joined by senior government officials on the journey and will return subsequent to the ceremony. This visit signifies a significant diplomatic endeavor for President Tinubu, emphasizing Nigeria’s dedication to nurturing robust relationships with neighboring countries and upholding democratic principles within the region.
