Authorities in Kano have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of a 32-year-old man, allegedly linked to a land deal dispute. Investigations are ongoing.

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of being involved in the murder of Dahiru Musa, a 32-year-old resident from Dorayi Quarters, Kano, related to a land transaction.

The suspects purportedly enticed Musa under deceptive conditions, poisoned him, and subsequently burned his body in an attempt to eliminate evidence.

This information was confirmed by the police command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement released to journalists in Kano.

Haruna revealed that the suspects—22-year-old Aliyu Adamu, 20-year-old Mubarak Abdulsalam, and 19-year-old Sadiq Sunusi—are presently being held by the police.

Haruna explained that on September 29, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a resident from Dorayi Quarters in Kano reported his brother Dahiru Musa missing. He voiced strong suspicions about Aliyu Adamu, age 22, of Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters in Kumbotso LGA, Kano State—the last person known to have been with the deceased.

After the report was received, detectives quickly took action and arrested Adamu the following day. During questioning, Adamu admitted to working with his friend, Mubarak Abdulsalam, to entice Musa into coming over under the guise of discussing a land deal.

“They gave him poisoned food, and once he lost consciousness, they fatally stabbed him,” Haruna explained. “His body was then wrapped in a sack and disposed of at an unfinished building near Adamu’s home.”

The police stated that the motive for the murder was to gain control of Musa’s landed property. It is reported that Adamu acquired Musa’s land documents and intended to take ownership of the property after eliminating him.

The investigation additionally uncovered that following Adamu’s arrest, Abdulsalam collaborated with another accomplice, Sadiq Sunusi, to burn Musa’s body using petrol in an effort to eliminate any remaining evidence. The charred remains were subsequently found and transported to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for an autopsy.

Commissioner of Police Salman Garba commended the public for supplying crucial information that resulted in the arrests. He further urged residents to stay alert, particularly when carrying out transactions in unfamiliar or isolated areas.
