The Kwara State Police Command has caught three car thieves and two people suspected of robbing people.
Abubakar Jimoh, alias Abu Carrot, and Abdulwaheed Murtador Olamilekan, two robbery suspects, were apprehended on December 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. on Madi Road, in the Gaa-Saka axis of Ilorin city, and one locally made firearm was purportedly recovered in their hands.
Police Commissioner Paul Odama gave a press conference at the Kwara State Police Headquarters in Ilorin on Friday. He said the suspects had readily admitted their plans to operate and rob members of the Ifesowapo Social Club at a gathering on Madi Road.
Investigation also turned up the fact that Abubakar Jimoh was wanted by the command for killing a 12-year-old kid and critically injuring his pregnant mother in the Adewole neighborhood of Ilorin, the state capital, two years prior.
Agents from the Criminal Investigation Department, or CID, caught the suspected car thieves after getting useful information. Abdulraheem Nasiru and Adeniyi Olalekan, who are both thought to be experts at breaking into people’s homes and stealing their things, were also caught.
According to the police commissioner, while being questioned, the suspects allegedly admitted to a string of home invasions and the theft of gadgets, packed vehicles, motorcycles, and other valuables.
Further investigation, according to Paul Odama, resulted in the recovery of five bags of semovita, three Toyota Sienna buses, one Toyota Corolla, four motorcycles, one plasma TV, three generator sets, seven bags of telephone accessories, and two tools for breaking into houses, including an iron cutter and a rod.
The receiver, identified as Friday Ugwu, a local of Eiyekorin village near Ilorin who provided receipts to cover the stolen goods, was also detained, according to the CP.
All of the accused, he said, would face charges in court.
