Three alleged members of the Eastern Security Network, an IPOB militant organisation, and their hideouts in Ezioha Mgbowo, a local government area in Enugu State’s Awgu Local Government Area, have been neutralised by the police command in Enugu State.

Three pump-action rifles, ten machetes, and other evidence-gathering items were also found by police officers.

The suspects were apprehended at around 2:15 am on Monday, according to a statement released by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, in Enugu.

The IPOB/ESN subversive criminal elements’ hideout was busted by a joint security force made up of Enugu State Command police officers, NPF Special Forces, and troops from the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army in Enugu.

The state’s illegitimate sit-at-home command was already being implemented by the criminal elements.

“Three of the hoodlums, who opened fire on the joint squad when they spotted them, were neutralised, while several more managed to flee with bullet wounds of varying severity.

According to Ndukwe, “those fleeing have been the target of a vigorous manhunt.”

In the meantime, Kanayo Uzuegbu, the state’s commissioner of police, praised the combined team and reassured the public of their protection and safety while urging them to carry on with their legal obligations.

The commissioner reaffirmed the sworn commitment of the police and other security forces to continue the assault against violent, unrepentant criminals acting in any capacity.

He urged everyone to report anyone they saw with a gunshot wound to the nearest police station.

The respectable citizens of Enugu State ought to uphold the law and keep giving the police useful security and intelligence data, he suggested.
