Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has counseled young people not to support those who will ruin their future.
Obasanjo further exhorted them to engage in all socioeconomic and political activities in order to change the narrative.
The former leader spoke during a mentorship retreat hosted by the Youth Development Center of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, according to a statement from spokeswoman Kehinde Akinyemi (OOPL).
He claimed that the youth’s latent potential is not being realized in the majority of Africa due to clear impediments.
The former head of state urged the next generation to never let another person define or influence their place in society.
Obasanjo stated that if young people are so desperate that they will cross the desert in search of menial employment in Europe, then their energy and spirit should be used into eradicating physical and psychological barriers.
“As young Africans, I’m challenging you to take part in activities that alter the narrative of Africa.
Participate in socioeconomic and political endeavors that will ensure a brighter future for you, he said, and prevent those who are ruining your future from succeeding.
