Thirty additional gang members and suspected renowned thug Burakita surrender to Kano police
Abba Burakita, one of the infamous thugs in Kano, is believed to have turned himself in to Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the state commissioner of police.
Armed with lethal weapons, he arrived at the Kano State Police Command’s Bompai headquarters with forty of his followers.
Abba Burakita was one of the two infamous gangsters that CP Gumel had listed as wanted, with a N500,000 bounty on their heads.
He fled Kano while the police were after him, but he later got in touch with his parents to tell them how much he wanted to give up thuggery but also how afraid he was that if he ever came out of hiding, the police would kill him or bring the whole force of the law down on him.
But when Abba’s parents reached CP Gumel, the latter pledged to help the state government grant him amnesty provided he genuinely changed his ways.
According to a statement made on behalf of CP Gumel by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Abba entered the Command headquarters covertly and then took 40 of his supporters with him.
The Statement claims that more known thugs are condemning and calling for a stop to thuggery, as Abba Burakita of Dorayi Quarters and his forty followers turned themselves in and gave their guns to the police.
The message also stated that Abba and his lads vowed to change for the better and expressed regret.
The statement went on to say, “You recall that the Police Command placed a bounty of N500,000.00 on each person’s head for being reluctant to answer Police invitation. Hantar Daba of Kwanar Disu Quarters Kano and Abba Burakita of Dorayi Karama Quarters are the two identified thugs leaders (Yan Daba).
The hangout incident on October 17, 2023, at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kofar Mata, altered his perspective and belief in the police. Burakita has finally turned himself in to the Police Command, which is wonderful news.
“He was accompanied by his family and a well-known Special Constabulary police officer named Ado Runto, who requested to be included in the State Government’s amnesty programme because he is now prepared to take part in the promotion of peace and sustainable development of the State.
“Furthermore, he arrived with a total of forty adherents from his gang of criminals, over whom he exercised great influence throughout the regime of supremacy fight (Fadan Yan Daba), which lasted for more than ten years.”
“The overall aim is to ensure the return of peace to Kano State; the indications of renewed hope for the State,” the Statement continued.
“In the meantime, Kano State Police Command is now holding Abba Burakita and the 40 meek, contrite thugs while they undergo security profiling.
“At last, the Office of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), located at the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) office at Bompai Police Headquarters Kano, was summoned by State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc, for anyone with a complaint against Burakita.”
