The explosion that occurred at Iraq’s Kalso military base in Babil Province, approximately 50km south of Baghdad, resulted in the tragic deaths of two officials from Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and left eight others wounded.
The PMF, in a statement, emphasized that the incident was indeed an attack, with their chief of staff, Abdul Aziz al-Mohammedawi, personally visiting the site to assess the situation and gather information from the investigative committees present.
However, the army has taken a different stance, stating that they are currently conducting an investigation into the matter and highlighting that there were no warplanes present in the sky at the time of the explosion.

The Iraqi military has formed a technical committee to thoroughly examine the cause of the explosion and subsequent fire that engulfed the military base.
According to the military’s statement, the incident occurred at 1 am on Saturday (2200 GMT Friday).
In an effort to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the explosion, the air defense command conducted extensive technical analysis and radar detection, concluding that there were no drones or fighter jets detected in the airspace of Babil before or during the explosion.
This information contradicts the PMF’s claim that the incident was an intentional attack.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the committee delves deeper into the incident.
