In response to a motorist’s report of a stolen Toyota Corolla with the licence plate ABJ 343 KL, police on Friday apprehended a group of three carjackers along the Bauchi-Jos Highway.

However, as they tried to flee, the alleged thieves smashed the car.

This was said in a statement released on Saturday and signed by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, director of Army Public Relations.

“The attentive troops built a fast check point on the roadway as soon as they received the report (of the stolen vehicle) and successfully apprehended the culprits. When the thieves spotted the soldiers, they attempted to flee but crashed the stolen car.

“The troops swiftly apprehended the criminals and have since handed the suspects and the stolen vehicle over to the Nigerian Police Force for further action,” the statement read.

On Friday, October 20, 2023, at a designated crossing point in Bura, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi state, troops of the 33 Brigade of the Nigerian Army engaged in another operation and neutralised an armed bandit.

“Acting on actionable intelligence, the forces waited for the bandits before opening fire on them, killing one of them while sending the rest running with bloody bullet wounds. From the robber, the troops retrieved an AK-47 rifle, 14 live 7.62 mm bullets, a mobile and a fetish amulet. According to the statement, troops are still prowling the general region in search of the eluding outlaws.
